This is what it looks like when a bird hits a plane:
Birds
actually hit planes a lot. Case in point, in 2017, a Delta Airlines
charter flight carrying the Oklahoma City Thunder experienced a bird
strike while descending to Chicago-Midway Airport from Minneapolis.
The
impact caused significant damage to the nose of the Boeing 757-200,
prompting players like Carmelo Anthony, Steven Adams, and Josh Huestis
to share photos and reactions on social media.
Despite
the startling appearance of the caved-in nose, the plane landed safely
without incident, and all passengers and crew were unharmed.
Bird strikes are more common than people might think.
In
the United States alone, there are more than 13,000 reported bird
strikes each year. However, experts say that an estimated 80% of bird
strikes go unreported.
Delta
Airlines confirmed the likely cause as a collision with a bird, and
maintenance crews quickly evaluated the damage, while the Thunder
continued their schedule to face the Chicago Bulls the following night.
