Right now, the US has the largest retail companies in terms of revenue
because of their global reach and the strength of consumers in the US.
Most of the leading companies in other countries are in the energy
sector like China National Petroleum and Saudi Aramco, which have some
extensive global reach. Fortune has published
a list of top companies with largest revenues in 2024, and it includes
both private and public companies. In the first spot is Walmart with the
largest revenue of $648.1 billion in 2024. Every hour, $74 million are
generated through America’s largest retailer and 68% of the total
Walmart’s sales are from the US.
The second top company with the
largest revenue in 2024 is Amazon, with $574.8 billion in total revenue.
Amazon’s revenue has been increasing non-stop from the past few years
because of Amazon Prime, Cloud Computing services and advertising.
Amazon is also planning to sell vehicles on its online platform, which
will further increase its revenue in the US. Followed by Amazon is
China’s State Grid with total $545.9 billion revenue in 2024. It is
China’s biggest utilities farm and controls more than 50% of the
country’s energy distribution. State Grid is also the biggest buyer of
copper in the world as it is used in power grid infrastructure.
Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Aramco got $494.9 billion in revenue in 2024.
Chinese companies Sinopec Group ($429.7 billion) and China National
Petroleum ($421.7 billion) earned top fifth and sixth revenues in the
world respectively. Both of these are oil companies, with Sinopec being
the largest oil refiner in the world, making 5.2 million barrels
everyday. Other companies in the top ten are all from the US. Apple got
the seventh biggest revenue in the world in 2024 ($383.3 billion),
followed by UnitedHealth Group ($371.6 billion) and Berkshire Hathaway
($364.5 billion). CVS Health had the tenth highest revenue in the world
with $357.8 billion.
The company with the biggest revenue which
wasn't from China or US was Germany’s Volkswagen at eleventh spot with
$348.4 billion revenue. UK’s Shell got the thirteenth biggest revenue in
the world in 2024 with $323.2 billion revenue. Japan’s Toyota Motor got
the fifteenth biggest revenue in the world in 2024 with $312 billion.
