Did you know Lina Khan Expresses Concerns Over FTC Leadership Transition and Upcoming Tech Giant Trials
The Chair of the FTC is expressing growing concerns about pending
antitrust lawsuits against tech giants as days for Donald Trump’s entry
into the White House near.
Lina Khan shared how she hoped Amazon
and Meta would be justly dealt with in regards to antitrust lawsuits
and they would not be pardoned after Trump’s entry as head of state. The
news comes as speculations grow related to the new Trump administration
offering a softer side to both Amazon and Facebook’s legal matters.
While
she added that there is no certain way to predict the future, she does
hope that others appointed in her role will carry on with their duties
justly as she and her team tried their best to do. This also stems from
new reports talking about Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg favoring Trump
with donations. Some go as high as one million dollars.
This
was for Trump’s inauguration fund which again made headlines, not to
mention both CEOs paying Trump a separate personal visit at his
residence in Florida’s Mar-a-Lago. So when Khan was asked to comment on
these moves, she didn’t hesitate one bit.
She spoke about the
FTC serving a very successful tenure under her leadership including
lawsuits related to Amazon and Facebook. So it’s obvious that with a new
person in charge, both tech giants will try to work their charm on
rolling out ‘sweetheart deals’ to try and get away with a lot.
Khan
hopes that her predictions are wrong but again, only time can tell what
happens in the end. For now, she concluded that Facebook will go on
trial in the spring of this year while Amazon’s trial begins fall of
next year.
