Did you know New Probe Launched Against Google’s Search Service By Top British Competition Watchdog
A new investigation was recently launched against Google’s search service by leading British competition watchdog.
This
marks the first leading probe under the nation’s latest tough
competition regulations. As per the Competition and Markets Authority,
it was now time to assess if Google had a strategic market status under
the latest DMCC law or not.
For those who might not be aware, the
DMCC first came into play on January 1 and was designed to stop all
kinds of anti-competitive behavior found inside digital markets. This
would designate the firm with the SMS status and provide power to the
regulators to roll out changes to stop behavior that was
anti-competitive in nature.
The chief executive of the CMA shared
how the regulator was currently investigating the matter of Google’s
dominance in the world of search to make sure it was working across a
leveled playing field for all stakeholders in the industry. This is true
as AI continues to shift users from the classic means of search seen
over the years.
The goal is to make sure everyone can benefit in the market and that businesses don’t feel like they’re dealing with any monopoly behavior, which is an infamous tag associated with the Android maker.
The move made by the CMA is very much in line with that rolled out by the DOJ in the US which wants Google to separate from its Chrome browser. They even filed to break the search engine giant apart after ruling it held a monopoly status in the world of search.
The
regulator shared more about Google also boasting a leading position in
the United Kingdom as a main matter of concern. After all, it holds 90%
of the overall search-related queries in the United Kingdom’s search
world. It also has more than 200k advertisers using its search tools as
per the CMA.
Search is important for economic growth in regards
to linking firms with different organizations, clients, and investors.
Therefore, it’s crucial for everyone that competition is working fair
and square for all.
