Did you know Which US Mobile Networks Excel in 5G? New Report by Ookla Reveals
Ookla just published their semi-annual report
on connectivity in the US and one of the takeaways from the report is
that 5G performance is getting better. But then comes the question
whether consumers are noticing this improvement in the performance or
not. The 5G network has gotten widespread in the whole country and it is
helping in faster upload speeds and downloads. iPhone users are also
making apps download faster and streaming videos without interruption
all became 5G. But most of the people think that 5G is an upgrade in
name only and it seems just like a continuation of 4G/LTE.
Ookla
compared data from its report from the first half of 2024 to know if
there are any improvements in 5G performance. According to the data,
T-Mobile’s 5G performance jumped from 228.24 in the first half of 2024
to 242.76 in the second half of 2024. AT&T saw minimal improvement,
with 131.63 in the first half of 2024 to 132.68 in the second half of
2024. On the other hand, the 5G speed of Verizon declined to 185.26 from
191.56. The report also covered customers’ ratings on a 5-star rating
system and it was found that T-Mobile’s rating dropped a little from
3.73 to 3.7. AT&T’s customer rating dropped to 3.12 from 3.14 while
Verizon’s rating remained the same throughout the year. This shows that
customer ratings of these three mobile networks have remained almost the
same.
Ookla’s report also added 5G availability rankings
according to which T-Mobile ranks at the top with 89.4% 5G availability
ranking. AT&T’s 5G availability ranking was 86.2% while Verizon had
49.3% 5G availability. The report also praised AT&T Fiber, saying it
was the fastest ISP in the US during the second half of 2024 with an
average download speed of 357.45 Mbps. It had an average upload speed of
286.93 Mbps. It was followed by Verizon with the download speed of
277.41 Mbps.
