Google is undergoing a massive transformation as AI becomes central to its Search experience, according to CEO Sundar Pichai during the company’s earnings call.
The shift began with AI overviews, and 2025 is expected to bring even bigger changes.
Google is integrating AI from its DeepMind research lab, aiming to turn Search into an AI-powered assistant that browses the internet, analyzes web pages, and provides answers.
Pichai referenced Project Astra, a multimodal AI capable of processing live video and real-time queries, and Gemini Deep Research, which generates in-depth research reports.
Another major development is Project Mariner, an AI system that could navigate websites on behalf of users, reducing the need to visit them manually. Google is also exploring interactive search features that allow users to ask follow-up questions.
Despite initial issues, including bizarre AI-generated responses, Google remains committed to AI-driven Search. However, this shift poses challenges for websites dependent on traffic and businesses reliant on Google ads.
