You know Future or a Threat? 36% of Americans Fear It Could End Humanity

 

According to recent research from YouGov, 36% of Americans are afraid that AI may end the human race on earth. 49% who know a lot about AI also think that AI can cause the human race to end. AI use has been getting a lot more common and people have also started fearing it. When Americans were asked how much they use AI tools, 59% said they use them occasionally and 39% said they use AI sometimes. 12% of the Americans surveyed say they know a lot about AI, 40% said they know about AI a fair amount and 7% of Americans surveyed said they know nothing about AI.

Apart from fearing that AI can end the human race, 28% of the part time and full-time workers fear that AI is going to take over their jobs or cut their hours. But on the other hand, 62% of the full time workers said that they are not very concerned about the effects of AI on their jobs while 31% said they are not concerned at all. When respondents were asked how they feel about the effects of AI on society, 35% said that AI will have positive effects while 34% said it will have negative effects. 36% also said that AI will have a positive effect on the economy while 27% think that it will have a negative impact.

34% of the respondents said that they don't trust AI to make ethical decisions and AI use should be regulated. Older people (48%) think that AI will have a negative impact on society way more than younger people (31%).
