Did you know Game-Changer or Gimmick? OpenAI’s AI Produces Shockingly Good Stories!

It’s not the news that many fiction writers will approve, but OpenAI just confirmed that it has designed and trained a new AI model that’s fabulous at creative writing.

The news was announced by CEO Sam Altman, who shared more on this topic through a post published on X. Altman mentioned how his company managed to train the latest model that produces excellent creative writing samples when provided with a prompt.

The example he shared had to do with a short story that described the role of AI and grief. For now, he’s not sure when the model will be offered as a public release, but this is the first time that the CEO says he’s been amazed by AI. For Altman, it provided him with the best metafiction vibes.

The news is huge as this is the first time that a tool was trained for the application of creative writing. However, opinions remain divided. Some argue that as soon as readers realize a piece is AI-generated, they disengage emotionally, seeking human interaction in storytelling. Others counter that once AI is perceived as intelligent, this bias fades, allowing readers to appreciate its work as they would a human’s.

It’s not a domain that you see the makers of ChatGPT experiment with a lot in the past. Mostly, the company likes to focus more on a bit complex subjects like math, reasoning, or programming. Therefore, this is like a breath of fresh air.

Now that it has arrived in this domain, we can expect to see more similar models greatly improve in the writing field. Remember, the past hasn’t shown AI being a good addition to any writer’s essay making skills. However, this new creative writing venture is something new and hopefully exciting.

We’re sure writers and publishers might not agree as it just adds more worries about competition in the industry. But others looking for a quick fix for short sample stories in metafiction, there’s no harm in getting some AI help. What do you think?
