Did you know TikTok Expands Parental Control With New Features to Balance Teens' Digital Habits
You can never have too much parental control on social media, and that’s why TikTok is rolling out new features in this domain.
The
popular social media platform shared an expansion to its parental
controls. This includes the addition of handy features that help parents
balance their teens’ digital habits. One great addition unveiled
includes Time Away, where parents can decide when their kids need a
break from tech.
There’s even a setting to design customized
schedules so kids stay offline during school timings, get enough sleep
at night, and also can take breaks to focus on spending quality time
with family.
Teens do have the option to send a request if they want some more
screentime, but that returns to their parents, who make the final call.
Other than that, another exciting feature is allowing parents to see
their kids’ followers, who they are following, and any blocked accounts.
Soon, the app will also enable the chance to alert parents or adults
when reporting videos for breaking the app’s rules.
Parents get
full control of settings so they can see what options their child has.
If they don’t want the account block, they get to change to private and
so on. TikTok also shared another wind down option that encourages the
youth to unwind at night and rest. It’s very similar to YouTube’s Sleep
Timer launched last year in October.
If any teenage user is on
the app after 10 pm, their feed is interrupted by a prompt on the screen
featuring soothing music. This reminds them to rest and take a break
from social media. If they don’t agree, they get more reminders that are
hard to ignore.
TikTok is similarly getting creative with the addition of meditation exercises that help better their quality of sleep as proven by studies. The app is certainly working hard to implement such changes after coming under fire in the past for not taking consent before collecting kids’ data. That was a major violation of privacy laws about kids.
