Did you know TikTok’s Deadline For Ban in the US Likely to be Extended Beyond April 5 As No Deal Reached

President Trump recently shared how he would most likely be extending the deadline for sale of TikTok in the US to avoid a ban.

Previously, the deadline was outlined to be April 5th of 2025, but it’s likely getting an extension because no deal has been reached so far between its parent firm ByteDance and any American buyer.

The news comes after a member from the press questioned Trump on the matter and asked if any extension would be given to the 75-day deadline that he imposed through an executive order after becoming America’s head of state.

Trump commented on how TikTok is a platform that the US has a lot of interest in, so they are hoping China can work alongside America to get a successful deal. The social media platform went dark for nearly 12 hours on January 19, which was right before the deadline was met, which the Congress had set. Trump jumped in to save the app by rolling out an executive order.

The law says that Trump can only make an extension to this deadline by three months, only if there is proof that China is interested in finalizing a deal.

We first saw the Congress sharing a new law that would force a sale of TikTok as concerns ran high amongst lawmakers that it had links with China’s government. They called out the platform for carrying out surveillance on American users and sharing details with the country.

Despite the app’s CEO testifying in front of Congress and denying the claims, the decision was not reversed and the deadline for a ban stayed put. Despite that, numerous reports shared how ByteDance continued to use the app to spy on American journalists, including linked to media outlet Forbes.

So now, Trump’s attempt to save the company is a serious reverse course of action from what the previous Biden administration put forth. Time after time, Trump has made it clear that the US wants to work with TikTok and have 50% stakes through a potential sale.

Now, Trump’s latest taxes on China might drastically affect China’s efforts to approve any sort of deal on this front. Trump added a new 10% tax on goods coming from China that didn’t make the nation happy.

Additionally, he had already added a 10% tax during the year’s start, so as one can imagine, calls for a deal might not be as easy as before. The company’s capital city of Beijing has pushed back against any new levy with serious opposition. They have rolled out their own tariffs on different products as a move to retaliate against the US changes and a trade war.

China has already shared how it would be engaging in any kind of war with the US if need be, and America did defend itself by saying that it was ready for any kind of war with the country.
