Did you know These Cybersecurity Roles Are in High Demand — Is Yours on the List?

 

According to a report by CyberSN, the most in-demand cybersecurity roles in 2024 are security engineers, security analyst, DevSecOps and privacy/cybersecurity analysts. In the US, these positions have been in the top four for the third year in a row, with security analysts having 45,496 job postings and security engineers having 64,300 job postings in 2024. With 36,020 job postings, DevSecOps specialists were the third most in-demand, followed by security architects and Privacy/Cybersecurity attorneys with 22,246 and 22,465 job postings respectively.

The chief security and technology officer at CyberSN, Dom Glavach, says that there are regulatory demands on Boards of Directors and CEOs in job postings related to cybersecurity. There are different factors like expanded FTC enforcement and SEC breach reporting that are influencing decisions related to the workforce. 

The job positions which saw the biggest increase were Privacy/Cybersecurity attorneys, with an increase of 40.74% from 2023. It was followed by an increase of 26.22% in jobs related to cybersecurity sales engineers and red teamers. On the other hand, cybersecurity software engineer roles saw the biggest decline, about 38.66% from 2023. There was a 26.54% decline in job roles for identity and access management engineers and 16.79% decline in job roles for cybersecurity leads. Glavach says that this decline in job postings is probably due to AI-powered security automation in the industry. According to a 2023 Nexford University report, the highest paid cybersecurity roles in the US are chief information security officer ($256,040), network security architects ($175,065) and security sales engineers ($157,509).
