The US Army has started deploying the SMASH 2000L, an AI-powered rifle-mounted fire control system designed to help soldiers accurately take down small drones. The system was successfully tested during a live-fire drill in Germany on June 6.

 

Developed by Israeli company Smart Shooter, the lightweight 2.5-pound system uses electro-optical sensors and computer vision to detect, lock, and ensure only high-probability shots are taken against aerial targets, enhancing precision and minimizing human error.

 

Funded by a $13 million contract under the Army’s Transformation In Contact 2.0 program, the SMASH 2000L offers a portable, cost-effective solution to counter the growing drone threat in asymmetric warfare. Earlier versions of the system are already in use across NATO forces.
