Chinese surgeons have performed a rare and groundbreaking reconstructive surgery by temporarily grafting a woman’s severed ear onto her foot, allowing it to survive for months before reattaching it to her head.
The procedure was carried out at Shandong Provincial Hospital in Jinan after the patient, identified only as Sun, suffered a severe factory accident.
Doctors said immediate reattachment was impossible due to extensive tissue damage, so the microsurgery team, led by Qiu Shenqiang, used the foot graft to preserve blood supply and keep the ear viable for later reconstruction.
