China’s latest megastructure — the Pingtang Bridge — has officially claimed the title of the world’s tallest bridge,

a marvel of modern engineering stretching nearly 3,000 meters (1.9 miles) across breathtaking mountain terrain. Standing over 565 meters (1,854 feet) above the valley floor, this suspension bridge dramatically reduces travel time between previously isolated regions, turning a two-hour winding mountain journey into a mere two-minute drive.
The bridge connects the cities of Pingtang and Luodian in Guizhou Province, one of China’s most mountainous areas. It features a three-tower suspension system designed to withstand extreme weather, earthquakes, and high winds — a necessity given its height and location. The main span alone measures more than 2,000 feet, supported by cables that collectively weigh over 7,000 tons. Engineers relied on advanced materials and computer modeling to ensure both flexibility and long-term durability.

Beyond its engineering brilliance, the Pingtang Bridge symbolizes China’s rapid infrastructure progress, blending functionality with stunning aesthetics. It not only boosts economic development in remote areas but also serves as a tourist attraction, drawing visitors eager to experience the thrill of driving across one of the world’s most spectacular bridges suspended high above the clouds.
