Tokyo Lit Up the Night Sky With Maomao From The Apothecary Diaries
Tokyo closed out 2024 with one of the more stunning anime tributes in recent memory.
On December 28 and 29, Odaiba Seaside Park hosted a free drone light show featuring Maomao, the freckled apothecary protagonist from The Apothecary Diaries.
Hundreds of synchronized LED drones formed detailed portraits of the character against the Tokyo bay skyline, with bridges and city lights framing the display in the background.
The formations captured Maomao's most recognizable features with surprising precision for a medium made entirely of flying lights. The freckles, the expression, the overall character design all came through clearly against the night sky.
Free public events of this scale are rare, and the choice to feature Maomao reflects just how much traction The Apothecary Diaries built throughout 2024.
From a period drama manga to one of the most visually celebrated anime of the year, and now a drone show over Tokyo Bay to send the year off. Not a bad run.
