Creamy Baked Vanilla Custard
Ingredients:
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
4 cups hot water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Nutmeg for garnish
Directions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
Mix Milk and Water:
In a large bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and hot water until smooth.
Whisk the Eggs:
In another bowl, beat the eggs until they are light and frothy.
Temper the Eggs:
Gradually add a small amount of the hot milk mixture to the eggs while whisking, to temper the eggs. Then, combine the rest of the milk mixture.
Add Vanilla and Salt:
Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
Prepare the Baking Dish:
Pour the custard mixture into individual ramekins or a 2-quart baking dish. Place the ramekins in a high-sided baking tray.
Bake the Custard:
Carefully fill the tray with about half an inch of water to create a water bath. Bake for approximately 1 hour, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. If using a larger dish, bake for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
