Did you know Instagram Is Back To Disclosing Which Reels Users Have Liked With New Friends Tab

If you’re a fan of staying discreet about your likes and preferences on Instagram then you might want to read on further.

Meta's Instagram is back to its old shenanigans and this time around they’re adding a new ‘Friends’ feed to the Reels tab. This means you get to see which reels are fascinating to those you follow from your friends list. Now it can be great if you're in search of more engagement for reels as a content creator but not so great for those who want a little privacy.

The platform knows that this is a risky decision as it might be loved by many or hated by all. Remember, we’ve seen the platform roll out something similar in the past where you could see what posts your friends were liking as a way to keep tabs. It didn’t get much love and was scrapped.

Now, users are seeing a new indicator popping up across the top right-hand side of their Reels playback window. This displays pictures of various profile bubbles that represent friends. These also have a heart or a comment icon placed over each of them.

The app says it’s a new and great way to show all your connections what you’re watching and liking these days or what Reels you’ve commented on recently. If and when you click on the indicator, you get to see the posts that they might have engaged with.

Instagram boss Adam Mosserri confirmed the news about adding friends on the Reels tab. He says it’s great for not only taking in entertainment but also spreading the love so others can enjoy similar content, provided they have similar tastes.

The goal appears to be encouraging engagement which is why you’ll see a bar for replies on the front of such posts. This way, you get to quickly respond to friends in regards to their actions with that particular reel. It’s logical because you also get a taste of what’s trending while sparking engagement.

Some users are already talking about how they want more privacy enabled. The thought of scrolling mindlessly and being watched or judged is not fun. Did we mention how embarrassing it can be to like or comment on something that others dislike or disagree with? Just the thought of that cringe is bothersome. What do you think?
