Taiwan has developed a new hypersonic missile, Qingtian, which can reach speeds of Mach 6 and has a range of over 1,243 miles (2,000 km).
The missile, currently in mass production, is expected to enter service with Taiwan’s Army soon. It's based on previous programs like Yunfeng and Yungeng II, and some units have already been delivered to Taiwan’s air force.
Taiwan is also working on deploying the missile from mobile launchers, collaborating with Czech and American companies to develop suitable vehicles. The Qingtian’s Mach 6 speed makes it highly evasive, difficult for enemy defense systems to track or intercept. The missile’s development was led by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology and supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense.
This new capability comes amid increasing pressure from China on Taiwan and the broader Indo-Pacific region. Taiwan’s development of hypersonic technology aims to enhance its defense capabilities and counter regional threats.
