Google has quietly introduced a long-awaited feature that allows Gmail users to change their existing @gmail.com email address without losing data or services. According to an update on Google’s account help page, users can now replace their old address while keeping emails, photos, messages, and access to services like Drive, Maps, and YouTube.

The update currently appears only on the Hindi version of Google’s support page, suggesting the rollout may begin in India or Hindi-speaking markets before expanding globally. The English-language page still says Gmail addresses usually cannot be changed, and CNBC reported that Google has not yet issued an official announcement.

Under the new policy, the original email address will remain as an alias, meaning emails sent to the old address will still be delivered. Existing data will remain unchanged, though users who switch addresses won’t be able to create another new Gmail address for 12 months.
