Did you know Elon Musk’s X Introduces Video Tab Amid TikTok Controversy
The TikTok ban controversy in the US continues after being on a knife-edge position. The app went dark and was then reinstated. The future is still unpredictable and that’s why tech giants are trying to make the most of this period of uncertainty.
Rival
apps in the world of social media want to take advantage of this whole
incident and hunt down TikTok users in search of a better alternative.
After all, it never hurts to have a backup, right?
Amongst those leading the race is Elon Musk’s X who has suddenly decided to launch some very exciting video features. This includes a dedicated video tab.
Through this means, users get the chance to see only video content
without text on the app. It’s quite similar to Reels on Instagram or
Shorts on YouTube.
We’ve seen X put a lot of effort in recent times to focus more on video
content after seeing how popular and successful it is on arch-rival
platforms. When he acquired the company in 2022, he added the immersive
media viewer that expanded videos to fit the full screen through simple
clicks. After the acquisition, the billionaire chose to double down on
this matter by enabling premium users to put out content that was 2
hours long. But it had to be only video.
Now that the Supreme
Court decided to temporarily uphold the ban on TikTok, Musk is thinking
about the idea of adding Vine to his X app. He is actively looking to
bring the feature but we don’t know when.
Vine was a popular platform for short video designs which gave Twitter users the chance to capture and also share six-second long clips. It shut down in 2017 which didn’t make a lot of fans happy.
Musk’s quest for hunting down TikTok refugees does not end there. Musk knows very well that time is of the essence. Trump’s decision to restore TikTok for a certain period until a deal is reached means they need to act quickly.
Trump’s idea of America owning 50% rights to TikTok seems like a deal that the popular social media platform might be interested in. Now the question here remains. Will TikTok say yes or no. They’ve already shown a positive interest in the matter. Still, only time can tell.
