Did you know President Trump Revokes Biden’s Executive Order Linked to Addressing AI Risks
President Trump sprung into action, minutes after taking charge of the
country. Amongst his list of blizzard actions include revoking an AI
executive order that was sought by former US President Joe Biden.
This
order was signed by Biden in 2023 and was designed to eliminate the
growing risks of AI towards workers, consumers, and the country’s
national security. Therefore, it was directed to the National Institute
of Standards and Technology or NIST to give guidance on how to curb
threats.
The goal was to highlight any errors in models and make
room for corrections such as biases. It similarly required AI
developers to share safety test results with the current administration
before going public. Therefore, you can think of it as an added measure
of security.
However, that no longer exists after Trump decided to repeal the order.
Many tech critics did side with the new President on the move. They
felt reportings such as these pressurized tech giants to share trade
secrets.
Trump reportedly stayed true to the promise that he
made during his presidential campaign. And that had to do with showing
more support for the AI world rooted in matters like free speech and
progress for humanity. Still, there are no details on this front other
than the immediate action that came into effect yesterday after Trump’s
inauguration ceremony.
