Did you know OpenAI CEO Shuts Down Rumors About Achieving Artificial General Intelligence
Crazy speculations surrounding OpenAI attaining the supreme level of
artificial general intelligence have left the CEO with no choice but to
come online and clear the air.
Sam Altman made it very clear through a post published on X
that there was no truth to the report and it was just a matter of
unnecessary hype. He similarly confirmed that there were no recent plans
on the agenda of deploying AGI now or next month as they’ve never
created it.
He did reassure the tech world that the company is
certainly working on some very cool things but as far as the
expectations of AGI are concerned, that’s not going to be the case.
Therefore, it’s a major phenomenon so for a company to be rumored of reaching that level of superintelligence is a major deal which is why OpenAI’s CEO had to step in. Now the question remains, where exactly did such a rumor come into place?
Well, it might be linked to an article published by Gwern Branwen who claimed OpenAI was near to making a huge breakthrough with new reasoning models. They could give rise to more data that was quintessential right now for training its more advanced systems.
Altman says there’s a lot of work needed to do that and so many questions remain unanswered. But that has now gone to fueling the hype further which means they are definitely working on it.
In December, the OpenAI brought to light claims linked to the tech giant’s capabilities of designing AGI and how the first AI agents might be joining the company soon as a part of its workforce. And he outlined the date to be 2025. He similarly shared how we’re just a few thousand days away from adopting the concept of superintelligence.
For
many, the matter might appear very artificial or
science-fiction-themed. It’s even crazy to discuss the whole incident
right now. But Altman did reassure the public that they’ll soon be able
to see what the company is seeing right now.
However, all does
not seem to be well in the world of AI as per a recently published
article by the Business Insider. They shared more insights on how many
companies have slowed down the progress of improving AI models.
Similarly, some tech giants are facing major issues related to the
design of new or more advanced models. Did we mention how the FTC
declared the partnership of OpenAI with Microsoft as troublesome and one
that harms competition?
The regulator declared how such
collaborations by tech giants can give rise to lock-in situations where
startups are starved of essential AI inputs. They also share sensitive
data that undermines fair competition as detailed by chairman Lina Khan
last week.
Still, the fact that the makers of ChatGPT are on the
verge of launching more cool products this year is enough to keep the
masses excited for what’s next. However, they just need to reduce their
expectations by more than 100 times as stated by Altman recently.
