Did you know Instagram Rolls Out New DM Features To Better Engagement Through Messaging

Social media giant Instagram just shared a host of updates to its DMs that are designed to better engagement through messaging on the platform.

For those who might not be aware, DMs are a primary means for connection on the app and that’s why Meta is working to make it even better than before. The news comes just one month after we saw the app’s boss Adam Mosseri confirm that Instagram would work to make the platform better than before in 2025. Clearly, he’s sticking to his words.

For starters, the app shares the ability to translate messages in streams so users can connect better with others around the globe. These translations are backed up by the company’s translation systems which keep providing accurate translations in up to 99 different languages.

This might also give rise to a boost in cross-border connectivity that opens up the potential for greater chances for different businesses through the app. The platform will also give users the chance to schedule DMs that provide an added level of automation to tasks.

While we cannot imagine that there would be a large number of instances where regular users need to schedule a message, there’s no harm in experimenting with innovation right? So far, the app has been testing the offerings with a small group of users in the past couple of months but we do hope for a wider release soon.

The app confirmed that messages could be scheduled nearly 29 days ahead of time. Similarly, the app gives people the option to pin texts inside a chat. They will get up to three messages to pin at the top of their group and regular chats so it’s easier to find, link with pals, and even revisit previous chats featuring memes that make you smile.

Again, we’re not sure how successfully users will take this news but it does add a new kind of element worth a consideration that might assist in guiding a conversation. We’re also seeing the app provide more users with a means to share music through the platform in the form of music stickers via DMs.

Over time, the app has been adding more elements of music that are similar to TikTok. Hence, just in case the latter does get banned in America, users will have an alternative to turn to.

Last but not least, the platform is giving a new option to invite users to group chats through QR codes on dedicated groups. Every group chat will feature a customized QR code that links new members via the discussion. The updates are quite interesting and work to expand the app’s focus to better DMs. We also hope to see it drive more engagement for the platform in general.

While the changes are nothing major, the tweaks towards DMs might just be the spark that the app is in search of for better interactions.
